SRI LANKA – Violence reported in Southern Provincial Council elections

Sri Lanka Southern Provincial Council Election recently saw 29 incidents
in total, with 8 major incidents and 21 minor ones, reported the Centre
for Monitoring Election Violence. The
Southern Provincial Council Elections took place on 10 October 2009.
Like other recent elections, the centre noted that violence increased
as polling day approached.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence consists of three organisations, including FORUM-ASIA member INFORM.
