FORUM-ASIA has monitored the use of repressive laws in Asia during the course of 2023 through media monitoring, subsequent interventions, and updates from our members on the ground.
From our extensive monitoring, we have observed the rampant use of repressive laws as a tool to stifle critics and limit the fundamental freedoms of human rights defenders (HRDs), activists, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), civil society organisations (CSOs), media, and even the public in general.
We are proud to share our comprehensive report titled Repressive Law Monitoring Report: January–December 2023 which documents these issues across Asia. This report encapsulates our findings and provides a detailed account of the ongoing challenges faced by HRDs and other stakeholders in the region.
