In 2022, FORUM-ASIA in collaboration with our local partners undertook research in Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Myanmar to understand the impact of harmful business operations, unfair labour practices and exploitative development projects on the rights of communities and the environment. The findings from the field research in these six countries were published in the form of reports, which have been instrumental in informing subsequent capacity strengthening and advocacy efforts at the local, national and international level.
Since their publication, there has been a significant shift in discourse and action across the six countries. These developments have been captured through these “One Year Later” briefs. The briefs provide updated insights and perspectives from impacted communities and relevant stakeholders, building on the findings and recommendations from the original reports.
As we reflect on this one-year milestone, FORUM-ASIA remains steadfast in its commitment to continue supporting communities in holding businesses and governments accountable for their role in violating people’s fundamental freedoms and rights.
