Monthly fee on migrant workers leads to more exploition and marginalisation

After a state government in Malaysia recently announced its plan for a new policy to collect monthly fees from all its migrant workers, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), a FORUM-ASIA member, released a press statement on 26 March calling on the government to “immediately withdraw this unjust policy”.

After the Selangor state government in Malaysia recently announced its plan for a new policy to collect a RM10 (about USD $3) monthly fee from all its migrant workers, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM), a FORUM-ASIA member, called on the government to “immediately withdraw this unjust policy” in a statement dated 26 March. The money collected will serve as a fund for youth vocational programmes in order to “reduce the reliance on migrant workers”.
