MALAYSIA – New leader, new pledges, same old human rights violations

2009" on 9 December 2009. Although a new leader came into power with
reforms and greater respect for human rights in April this year, the
report highlights that human rights abuses still remain today.

2009" on 9 December 2009. Although a new leader came into power with
reforms and greater respect for human rights in April this year, the
report highlights that human rights abuses still remain today.

The
government has not repealed the Internal Security Act (ISA), and nine
people are detained under the law at the present. The report says, "As
the year draws to a close, it is clear that the government has no
intention of repealing the ISA."
