International Women’s Day
8 March is celebrated across the world as International Women’s Day. It is a day intended to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. A day also to remind all of the indispensable role the women’s movement, women’s rights organisations and individual women human rights defenders have and continue to play in promoting and protecting human rights.
FORUM-ASIA and Women’s Rights
The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) is a strong proponent of women’s rights and gender-mainstreaming, and firmly believes that there can be no human rights without women’s rights. As a human rights organisation with 81 members in 21 countries across Asia, FORUM-ASIA has witnesses, supported and been part of the great work women’s organisations and women human rights defenders do throughout Asia.
On International Women’s Day 2020, FORUM-ASIA wants to celebrate these efforts with an event to highlight and reflect on instances where women’s movements and individual women human rights defenders created change or had an impact related to human rights. To honour the many efforts that have been made, to learn from success stories and embrace good practices, particularly those that have been highlighted in publications developed by FORUM-ASIA over the last years.
International Women’s Day event 2020
For this purpose, on 9 March 2020, FORUM-ASIA will organise an evening event to combine a reflective discussion with food, an exhibition and plenty of opportunity to chat and exchange.
Stay tuned to FORUM-ASIA’s Facebook page for the live stream of the panel discussion.
