Date: 5 March 2020

Time: 13:00 – 14:00

Venue: Room XXVII, Palais des Nations, Geneva

Moderator: Sejin Kim, FORUM-ASIA

Panelists:

  • Michel Forst, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of HRDs
  • Mandkhaitsetsen Urantulkhuur, Centre for Human Rights and
    Development, Mongolia
  • Shahindha Ismail, Maldivian Democracy Network, Maldives
  • Cristina ‘Tinay’ Ellazar Palabay, Secretary General, Karapatan,
    Philippines

Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) are extremely vocal in calling for human rights to be protected and upheld. Their relentless work calling for justice is, however, exposing them to serious risks and threats.

Unsurprisingly, WHRDs are then regarded as one of the most targeted group of defenders in Asia.

In light of this context, FORUM-ASIA is organising a side-event to reflect collectively on the situation of WHRDs on the ground and provide concrete recommendations to ensure violations are prevented and rights protected.

During the side-event specific cases of physical violence, online and offline threats and harassment as well as judicial harassment in Mongolia, the Maldives and the Philippines will be highlighted and discussed.
