On 2-3 September, FORUM-ASIA will hold the 3rd Human Rights Defenders Consultation on National Protection Mechanisms, the first of which was held in 2015 and second in 2016. The consultations are aimed at analysing and addressing the challenges and opportunities that human rights defenders experience in the country. It is hoped that this year’s consultation will be able to equip human rights defenders with different skills and knowledge to enhance their security and safety, and to further the development of the national protection mechanism for human rights defenders in Mongolia.

On 4-6 September, FORUM-ASIA will conduct an advocacy mission, a follow-up to activities in 2015 and 2016, which produced recommendations focussed on the protection and effective realisation of human rights in the country, among others related to the elections in 2016. This year the mission will include meetings of Mongolian civil society organisations, joined by Son Chhay, a Cambodian Member of Parliament, with the Legal Standing Committee and Human Rights Sub-Committee of the Parliament of Mongolia, the Mongolian National Human Rights Commission, and different political parties, including the Mongolian People’s Party.

On 6 September, FORUM-ASIA will share its reflections, recommendations and analyses of the situation of Mongolian human rights defenders and the engagement with different stakeholders in the country.
