iwd_3.gifThis 8 March 2010 is to be the 100th International Women's Day. Odhikar,
FORUM-ASIA member in Bangladesh, and two other organisations in the
country, have started preparation for the celebration.

Every week, their representatives meet for thematic meetings on women
workers, agriculture, education, women's rights and more. These meetings
are held with the participation of women's organisations working at
grassroots level.

Another programme which has started already is "100 Years Quilt
Making". Women in different parts of Bangladesh have taken up the
plan to make embroidered designs to express their feelings on women's
rights on a piece of yard long cloth.

On and before 8 March, the quilt and other artwork will be exhibited.
Among other events, there is also the "Tribunal of Women: Testimonies
of Struggles".

The first International Women's Day was declared during the Second International
Conference of Socialist Women in 1910 held in Copenhagen, Denmark. For more detailed history
of the day, please click here (International Women's Day website).
