The Asian NGO Network on National Human Rights Institutions (ANNI) will participate in the the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) Special Event in the framework of the Conference of Parties (COP 22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Marrakech, Morocco on 6 November 2016. This event will elaborate a joint statement highlighting both the role of NHRIs in the fight against climate change and the adoption of a universal approach to sustainable development so that “no one is left behind’. In particular, the event will try to address the following topics:

– The role of NHRIs in implementing the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development in terms of climate change, including monitoring the implementation and reporting of government commitments;

– New perspectives for NHRIs in the fight against climate change in terms of cooperation with other strategic partners- institutional or non-institutional- (governments, international organizations, civil society and businesses, etc.);

– The role of NHRIs in urging their governments to mainstream the “human rights” dimension in the negotiations of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC.
