The Second Bali Democracy Forum was held in Bali, Indonesia, from 10-11
December 2009. Government leaders and civil society representatives attended
the event.
The forum aims at the promotion of regional international cooperation in the
field of democracy and political development among Asian countries. Among the
main topics discussed upon is relationship between democracy and development,
rule of law, the role of women and the emergence of information age.
Among the participants were government representatives of 36 countries, such as
Bangladesh, Burma, China, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines,
Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste and Thailand.
The Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama remarked the "transition to
democracy, while also achieving economic growth and developing civil
