Joint Statement of Asian Human Rights Defenders on Darfur

29 March 2007

About 50 Asian NGOs including FORUM-ASIA have issued a joint statement urging Asian states to live up to their pledges, as member states of the Human Rights Council, to protect and promote human rights globally and to act in the interest of human rights in Darfur. The statement is titled “The Shared Responsibility of All Member-States of the United Nations to Act Urgently on Darfur: Case of Asian States”. Read full text (in .pdf).

Joint oral statement delivered by the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies, on behalf of various NGOs including FORUM-ASIA

Joint statement on the Human Rights Council's work on disappearances in Asia

This statement was submitted by the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA), Asian Legal Resource Center (ALRC)/Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), International NGO Forum on Indonesia Development (INFID), Pax Romana, non-governmental organizations with consultative status, in cooperation with the Asian Federation Against Disappearances (AFAD). It highlights barriers to the Human Rights Council’s work on disappearances in Asia, looks at the situation in several countries and also urges the Council to examine seriously its membership in order to correct the presence of gross violators amongst its ranks.
