Peoples SAARC, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, 22-23 April 2010

The Peoples SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on 22-23 April 2010, a week before the 16th SAARC Summit, hosted by the Bhutanese government in Thimpu, from 28-29 April 2010.

People’s SAARC (also known as South Asian People’s Assembly) was last organised in 2007 in Kathmandu and 2008 in Colombo as a larger mobilisation and convergence of social movements, women and Dalit movements, trade unions, peasant organisations, indigenous peoples’ organisations and various other socially excluded groups in the regions.

Major themes of the event this year includes Freedom of Movement, Right to Resident at Work, Climate and Livelihood, Nationalism, Federalism and Democracy in South Asia, Fighting Imperialism for Democracy Development and Exclusion, Trade and Economic Development, Water Sharing and Scarcity, Politics of Hatred and Agrarian crisis and Food Security.
