Regional Perspective with Global Outlook
As a membership-based regional organization, regional perspective and approach need to be strengthened through proactive partnership with members at the national level and partners at international level. An intermediary role linking the locals to the global and vice versa is crucial in this era of globally connected world. Given the UN consultative status in 2004, the role of global advocacy needs to be strengthened.
Participatory Approach
Full participation of FORUM-ASIA member and partner organizations cannot be stressed enough. As a membership-based regional organization, member and partiner organizations' expertise and resources need to be fully optimized and utilized at all stages – planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating. In order to ensure the full participation of the member and partner organizations, institutional mechanisms such as Ex-Com and (Supervisory) Programme Committee shall be strengthened and introduced.
Knowledge-based and Intensive Approach
In the era of information society, effective use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) needs to be promoted. Synergy and creation of value-added information and knowledge produced by member and partner organizations, and development in the capacity of analytical reporting and research need to be emphasized.
Coherence and inter-linkage among Programmes
Coherence between organizational goals/objectives and programmes contents needs to be strengthened. Horizontal inter-linkage among various programmes such as Thematic, Country and Advocacy Programme as well as Linkage Programme needs to be promoted too through task-force or other working mechanisms.
Compatibility with global standards and local realities
All programmes need to be more compatible with existing global standards and mechanisms. At the same time, the programmes should be more relevant to the specific needs and interests of member organizations at the national level with full awareness of local realities. Special efforts will be needed to avoid or minimize duplication and increase or maximize synergy.
