“Under previous ASEAN leaderships, the crisis in Burma was not effectively addressed and the junta’s atrocities escalated. During the 2022 ASEAN Summit, leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace in Burma and called for concrete, practical, and measurable steps with a specific timeline. Key to this process is engaging all stakeholders. A coalition of Burma, Indonesia, and regional civil society groups will host the seminar “2 Years of Resistance: Assessing Regional Responses” on January 28th, 2023, marking the two-year anniversary of the coup. The seminar will bring together speakers from Burma, Indonesia, and other ASEAN countries to update the situation in Burma and explore options for the regional community, especially Indonesia, to act towards a peaceful and democratic resolution.

This event was organised by CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, Komisi untuk Orang Hilang dan Korban Tindak Kekerasan – KontraS, Asia Justice and Rights – AJAR, FORUM-ASIA, ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights – APHR, Initiatives for International Dialogue, Asia Democracy Network – ADN, Amnesty International Indonesia, ALTSEAN-Burma and Progressive Voice
