On 4 December 2019, several public events will be organised across the world to launch this year’s ‘People Power Under Attack’ report from the CIVICUS Monitor, an online platform tracking civic space globally. The series of events will kick off in Asia with a launch event at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Thailand, co-organised with FORUM-ASIA.

In 2018, according to the ‘People Power Under Attack 2018’, 94 percent of people in Asia lived in countries deemed closed, repressive or obstructed when it comes to civic space. Out of the 23 countries counted in Asia, four were deemed closed, six repressive, and ten obstructed.

So how has Asia faired in 2019? Has the region become more or less repressive? Which countries have improved or digressed? And what have been particular trends when it comes to civic space that are noticeable in the region?

Join CIVICUS and FORUM-ASIA for the launch of the global report and a discussion on the ratings and trends in Asia on Wednesday 4 December from 9:30-11:30 at the FCCT in Bangkok, Thailand.
