2nd Regional Human Rights Defenders’ Forum and 1st International Women Human Rights Defenders Day

FORUM-ASIA together with the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is organising the 2nd Regional Human Rights Defenders’ Forum to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 28-29 November. We will also be celebrating the 1st International Women Human Rights Defenders Day on 29 November. Available online are forms for human rights defenders and UN agencies to participate, as well as for representatives of governments and national human rights institutions, and other useful information.FORUM-ASIA together with the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is organising the 2nd Regional Human Rights Defenders’ Forum to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 28-29 November. The theme for this year’s forum is “Towards Full Implementation of the UN Declaration on HRDs in Asia – Strengthening the Role of HRDs”.

In close cooperation with APWLD, the 1st International Women Human Rights Defenders Day on Wednesday, 29 November, and this will be held as part of the forum in the afternoon.

Ms Hina Jilani, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General on Human Rights Defenders will be present for a keynote presentation and will be engaging in dialogue with participants during the entire forum.

The Forum is expected to bring more than one hundred human rights defenders and other key stake-holders from the region and elsewhere in order to share their experiences and develop common strategies in response to emerging human rights challenges.

The venue for the two-day event will be the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) in Bangkok, in the headquarters of the UN Economic and Social Council in the Asia and Pacific Region (UNESCAP).
