12th ANNI Regional Consultation on 19-20 February 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

On 19-20 February 2019, the Asian NGO Network on National Human Rights Institutions (ANNI), FORUM-ASIA, and its member Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) are co-holding ANNI’s annual Regional Consultation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The consultation will take into account the developments and discussions from previous regional consultations and conferences. Around 25 participants from ANNI member organisations will participate this consultation. They will review the 2018 action points and assess ANNI’s performance. They will also share the development of human rights situation and the National Human Rights Institutions (NHRI) in their respective countries.

The objectives of the two-day consultation are: to share updates and developments regarding human rights issues; developments and concerning regarding NHRIs; to develop advocacy strategies and action points towards the establishment and improved work and functioning of Asian NHRIs; to develop more effective functioning and management of ANNI network and finally, to discuss the framework and guidelines for ANNI Report 2019 and best practice of NHRIs in the region.

Additionally, ANNI members will have the opportunity to visit and meet with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM).
