FORUM-ASIA presented, along with five other NGOs, a statement in an interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, Professor Paulo Pinheiro, on 13 March 2008 at the 7th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
While appreciating the “diligent work” of the Special Rapporteur, the joint statement expressed “regret” that “his efforts have brought very little improvements to the human rights situation in Burma”.
The statement called to the Human Rights Council that the “improvement of the human rights situation in Burma must be the top priority”. It also urged China, India and ASEAN to “take the lead by pushing the SPDC to cooperate with the Council”.
This joint statement is by NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID), FORUM-ASIA, Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK), Centre for Organization Research & Education (CORE), People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD) and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WIPLF).
