As part of FORUM-ASIA’s efforts to strengthen the role of human rights defenders at sub-regional level, the proceedings of the first Northeast Asia Human Rights Defenders’ Forum record the discussions and issues brought up at the meeting in Nukht, Mongolia. The forum was themed “Promoting ESC Rights and Human Development – Strengthening the Role of Human Rights Defenders in Northeast Asia”, chosen because these are considered most relevant to the current realities in most of the countries concerned, in the sub-region of Northeast Asia. Further, the rights-based approach to development was taken up in addressing the theme of human development, together with the role of human rights defenders.
