Regional Exchange on Memorialisation as an Alternative or Complementary Transitional Justice Measure

Last week, FORUM ASIA in partnership with Impunity Watch and swisspeace concluded the first-ever Regional Exchange on Memorialisation as an Alternative or Complementary Transitional Justice Measure.

The exchange held on 3 to 7 November in Bangkok brought together civil society actors, including women’s rights groups and grass roots organisations from Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste and Thailand.  Participants addressed challenges to national accountability and redress for past and present rights-violations and how memorialisation can be used as a complementary or alternative transitional justice process as a means in which to overcome them or act as a step towards greater accountability.
